ROADS: AT&SF ATSF SFRD Santa Fe used the USRA reefer design, stretched to 41'3", as its standard for the decade of the 1920's. The first delivery was in 1920 consisting of 2,500 cars, half from American Car & Foundry and half from Haskell & Barker, series 12951-15450. The cars kept the odd ventilators used on previous truss rod classes. Although a rebuilding program began in 1936, all of the cars were not converted to steel-superstructure classes until 1946. They ran substantially as built, except for going through 4 lettering and paint styles, until converted. The decals model the cars from delivery to scrapping. See series 8600 for other photos.
