The first true single sheathed design, between 1903 and 1923 over 75,000 cars were built. As
with any high volume production over a long period of time, minor improvements were continually
made. Combined with upgrades that the different railroads made, literally dozens of different
versions existed. Our 6'-door kits model 14 physically different prototypes.
Grand trunk ordered over 11,000 Fowlers. 3,000 were assigned to its U.S. subsidiary. These
cars had wood roofs, 2-brace ends and poling pockets, and except for 9 replacement cars
ordered
by parent GT, were unique to the subsidiary. The cars were rebuilt with extra end braces and
steel roof in the 1930's and lettered for Grand Trunk Western. They ran to 1956. Kit 304 models
the car up to rebuilding.
