The outer sheathing was removed, revealing the construction details of the car. Stenciled for this service, the cars were numbered 40250-40449. In 1951-2 another 200 cars were rebuilt but these were not stenciled for the zinc service so it is assumed that the cars were used in general service. Upper door stops were not original to the rebuilds but added shortly thereafter. Lettering changed slightly over the years. The herald was reduced in size, the capacity data moved and some dimensional data deleted. The cars ran as late as 1973. Kit 3652 models all of the detail and lettering variations of the car from rebuilding to scrapping.
