The United States Railway Administration confiscated the railroads in December 1917. It
produced standard freight car designs to ease the freight car shortage. The steel box car
design was never built but NYC used the design throughout the 1920`s as their basic design.
21,000 cars were built for NYC and subsidiaries between 1922-28 with evolving design
changes
built in.
4,900 cars with plate Creco doors were lettered for NYC when delivered in 1923-25. An
additional
1,500 with corrugated doors were delivered in 1926. Renumbered in the late 1930's, they ran
into
the mid-1960's. Our kit contains two sets of doors and decal for both NYC Lines and System
so
that both designs can be modeled throughout their lives. One piece car body casting.
