New Haven installed 1,000 cars numbered 15000-15999 in 1902. These were a generic design by
Pressed Steel Car Co. In 1903-4 3,300 more fishbelly side sill cars were installed of modified design;
see our kit 10503. The 1902 cars were renumbered 70000-70999 in 1908 and given safety appliance is
1915. Another general rebuilding took place in 1926. However, these cars had the heaviest
underbodies and therefore were least efficient. They were scrapped or sold at that time. Delivered with
a less ornate herald than later cars, it is probable that the later herald was used when the cars were
renumbered.
Kit 10501 models the car as delivered and with 1908 lettering, running until given safety appliances in the
'teens. Kit includes truck sideframes and bolster but not wheels. For static models only. These trucks
will not pivot enough for model railroad curves.
